Thousands of Madriders furious about "another" catastrophe

A sincere apology has been extended to the citizens of Madrid by the Minister of Transport, Óscar Puente, for the issues that occurred on Friday. A new round of demands for solutions has been made by the Community of Madrid.

The “generalized” incident that took place in the early hours of this Friday in the Cercanías Madrid train service has resulted in significant delays or rescheduling on all lines that originate from the southern region of Madrid, including the C3, C4a, C4b, and C5 lines, as well as the Méndez stations. Villaverde and Alvaro as well.

As a case study on how collective memory of a violent past affected public responses to terrorism, this thesis investigates the train bombings that occurred in Madrid, Spain on March 11, 2004 (also known as the “11-M”) and the large public protests and national elections that followed.

Spain, the remembered experiences of the Civil War, the dictatorship of Francisco Franco, and the violence inflicted by the terrorist group ETA, were deeply influential in determining behavior and reactions after the 11-M bombing. In this article, I examine some of the ways in which memories were communicated and shared formally with the public.

as a result of the bombing: the establishment of two memorials to the deceased, as well as the medical and psychological effects on the people of Madrid. A combination of academic literature, first-hand observations, and interviews with Spanish citizens form the basis of my research.
